First Quarter Ranger Sales and Share Surge as Strong Demand Continues

The segment-defining Ford Ranger pickup truck continued to build on its popularity in Malaysia in the first quarter of 2019, boosting its share of the pickup segment to 20.1 percent, a gain of 4.8 percentage points from the same quarter last year.

“The ‘Built Ford Tough’ Ranger continues to define customer expectations in the pickup segment for capability, versatility, great design and comfort,” said Truong Kim Phong, Managing Director, Asia Pacific Emerging Markets, Ford Motor Company.

The multiple award winning Ranger, which is available in nine variants, has attracted a wide range of customers who appreciate a vehicle that complements both work demands and lifestyle needs. The Ford Ranger truly caters to all customer segments, from the premium priced at RM199,888 for the Ranger Raptor, to the cheapest automatic base model in the market, the Ranger XL at RM103,888.

With a host of first and only in-class smart safety technologies in its segment, the Ranger offers what most passenger cars don’t.

“We are delighted with the strength in demand of the new Ford Ranger lineup, in particular the response to the Ranger Raptor, which has opened a new segment for the pickup truck category – premium performance truck,” said Syed Ahmad Muzri Bin Syed Faiz, Managing Director, Sime Darby Auto ConneXion.

The Ranger has continued to earn significant recognition in Malaysia since 2012, including most recently the ‘Pickup Truck of the Year’ at the 2018 Malaysia Car of the Year (COTY) awards, ‘Pickup Truck of the Year’ at the 2018 DSF.my Allianz Vehicle of the Year Awards (VOTY), Gold for ‘Pickup Truck of the Year’ at the Carlist.my People’s Choice Awards & Editors’ Choice Award 2018, and TopGear Chinese Editor’s Choice Pick-up Truck of the Year Awards 2018.
